Gender & Conformity

Today I read “Raising My Rainbow”, a book about a family with a son who did was not gender conforming. From the age of 2 their young boy began expressing a preference for female things, in regards to hair, clothes, toys, colors, and activities.

His particular parents supported him, and allowed him to be himself, regardless of what that looked like, and especially regardless of who may see fit to judge them for it.

I thought the book was well written, and did a good job of allowing readers to see into some of the angst that accompanies parenting a child who does not conform to their seen gender.

What do you think? If you had a non-gender conforming child, how would you handle it?
